We’ve passed the penultimate parade and made it to the final race of the Formula 1 season in 2023. 4 points is all that splits the Ferrari and Mercedes teams from claiming 2nd place in the standings At one point in the season, Mercedes held a 51-point margin over Ferrari as they sought to close the technical book on the zero-pod era and build towards consistent win-fights once again. Unfortunately though after a successful set of updates and upgrades Ferrari has closed the gap. Unless a shock win in Abu Dhabi can book this season’s story - 2023 will be the Silver Arrows’ first winless season since 2011.
When you consider all the unluckiness, drama, and heroics that have punctuated the seasons of both the teams, of all 4 of the drivers - the fact that they are ending the year this close on points is a brief moment of respite in a Formula 1 season that has been largely devoid of championship fights.
